Masupatsela Series II is a documentary series produced by Free Range Films for SABC Education. Masupatsela Series II showcases trailblazing individuals, communities, organisations and businesses who are taking the initiative and making a difference to South African lives. Whereas Series I focused on pioneers working in the field of HIV and AIDS only, Series II casts its net wider and finds trailblazers in a variety of fields. Our trailblazing Masupatsela of Series II are making a positive difference in the lives of South Africans. The difference they are making can be at a very immediate level or at a broader more general level; they can be making a difference to their neighbours’ lives, or to the lives of more people that they do not know directly.
Masupatsela Series II was shot around South Africa from October 2008 through to March 2009. The creative team consisted of directors based in Cape Town, who worked with crews from the various regions when they travelled to Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, and KwaZulu-Natal. Another member of the directing team lives and works in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape and shot stories for us with her regular camerawoman.
Series II features stories from Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Northern Cape, North West, and Western Cape. Stories are in the languages of the characters featured and include English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Sotho, Venda, Zulu, and Pedi.
