From the Belly of the Beast

Mbuyiselo Zotwa is the post production intern working with us on Masupatsela II. He is hard at work translating twelve of the twenty-two stories that were filmed in Xhosa. Not only does Mbuyiselo translate, he is an integral part of the post production process, contacting characters to inform them of broadcast dates, updating contact details, assisting the editors, assisiting the producer, and he has been known to do the dishes too!

MBUYISELO ON MASUPATSELA SERIES II
This has been the greatest experience of my life. For many years I’ve been looking for something meaningful to do with my life whilst getting paid at the same time. Before I came here I had never watched Masupatsela but I have fallen in love with it. I feel like I am giving something back to the people of this lovely planet by working on this project.

This is what television should be about. TV should play more programmes such as Masupatsela. Masupatsela is about telling people’s stories and helping them to get funding and some just to find themselves. The series is produced by Free Range Films and the people who work at Free Range are not money driven, they are driven by passion. It’s the people first and money last.

I hope I do this kind of work forever. That is until I die or retire. I was fortunate enough to work with a team that is highly dedicated to what they do. We are not a team of many in numbers but we are a true team. I am still new to the team but I already feel comfortable working with them. I spend most of my time translating that means I listen to each and every word recorded. I get to listen to how different people view life and that has been the greatest lesson to learn on this project so far.
